April 18, 2009 - Our club just began using business cards as a tool for increasing our membership. We printed cards with a short list of our activities on one side and meeting information on the other. We provided them to members and hand them out at activities or whenever an opportunity presents itself. ---a Montana club---

April 26 , 2009 - While the candlelight ceremony is impressive, our club had problems using it at our regular meeting place. Their insurance policy prohibited open flames. So we invested in a bunch of small LED lights (about $2 each) and use them instead of the candles. Every Lion gets one and participates in the ceremony that was modified so all lions join in "lighting" the room at the end. It really glows! Then we collect the lights to use them again next time. ---an old hand in South Dakota---

May 8, 2009 - The Billings Lions Club has been using e-mail messages for several years to keep members up to date (we only have a few who cannot receive the messages). We also have our own website so we are going to try having members set a page on the website as their "home page" on their computer. The page will change weekly and keep them up to date every time they turn their computer on. We will still do the e-mails, too! ---billingslions.org webmaster---

March 9, 2009 - Have you ever tried a photo bulletin board at your meetings (or simply passing around photos of recent activities)? That sure keeps the members attuned to what the club is doing. Instead of throwing them away or adding them to your club's history file, how about presenting some of those pictures to the participants so they can take them home? The photos were digital? Even better: e mail them with a note of thanks! ---the TTT Team---

May 1, 2009 - For several years our club has offered four meetings a year at special locations. We meet on Thursday evenings, so any fifth Thursday (which happens every three months) will not be a regular meeting but will be at a museum, art gallery, sporting event or some other special place. --- Billings Lions Club ---

Publicity have a suggestion on this topic? E-mail it to us.

May 9 , 2009 - Hey, folks... if you already send e-mails to club members why not organize them into press releases and include local media in your distribution (especially if they have a reporter who regularly covers service organizations and volunteers). Don't overload them with messages (decreasing the value of your press release) but be sure to include them for public events! Your members won't mind the press style in the messages, either! --- MD37S zone 5 ---

May 1, 2009 - How many of you "twitter" or "tweet?" >>> Sounds weird, but there are free services that allow users to subscribe for e-mail or cell phone messages sent out by organizations. The messages are managed by the subject matter chosen when you subscribe. One such service is called Twitter --- and to send out a message on it is to tweet. The White House is doing it... so why don't we? It might be a way of reaching younger audiences that use this type of social networking as a way to learn what is going on in areas that interest them. There is a little knowledge required, but your district webmaster should be able to help. ---Lion Jerry Leggate---
